Is Mounjaro Available on the NHS?

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, though with strict eligibility and a phased rollout. To be eligible, patients usually require a much higher BMI and have multiple weight related medical conditions. 

Additionally, long waiting lists and limited national roll out on the NHS leads to most patients accessing Mounjaro through private providers.

Mounjaro was approved for NHS use following guidance from NICE . This approval allows prescribing within specialist NHS weight management services, but only for patients who meet the defined clinical thresholds rather than for general cosmetic weight loss. 

NHS Eligibility Criteria 

Access is typically limited to adults who meet one of the following: 

• BMI of 30 to 34.9 with at least one weight- related medical condition (such as hypertension or type 2 diabetes)

• BMI of 35 or above,  and you meet other criteria usually following referral into a specialist weight-management service rather than a standard GP prescription.

• Staying on the lowest, most effective dose as long as possible. You do not need to increase if your current dose is working for you.
