Covonia Original Bronchial Balsam Syrup is designed to provide relief from dry, irritating coughs associated with conditions such as the common cold and bronchitis. It contains two active ingredients, dextromethorphan hydrobromide, which helps reduce the urge to cough, and menthol, which helps soothe irritation and provide a cooling sensation.

Dosage

Adults and children over 12 years: Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls (10ml) every 4 hours when required.

Ingredients

Active Ingrdients: Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 7.5mg, Menthol 2.5mg.

Other Ingrdients: Ethanol, Glycerol (E422), Capsicum tincture (capsicum oleoresin), Peppermint oil, Anise oil, Citric acid (E330), Macrogol cetostearyl ether, Caramel (E150), Cineole, Sodium benzoate (E211), Sucrose, and Purified water. Alcohol 0.18 vol%. Sucrose 3.07g per 5ml.

Warnings

Do not take this medicine if you:

Are allergic to any of its ingredients.
Have taken MAOIs (some antidepressants) in the last 2 weeks.
Have shortness of breath or an asthma attack.
Have liver problems.
Have a long-lasting cough or a cough that produces mucus/phlegm.
Are under 12 years old.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you:

Have had asthma.
Have ever been addicted to opioids, alcohol, prescription medicines, or illegal drugs.
Have had withdrawal symptoms after stopping alcohol or drugs, such as anxiety, shaking, sweating, or agitation.

Using this medicine regularly or for a long time can cause addiction. Take it only as directed in the leaflet.

Stopping it after regular use may cause withdrawal symptoms, including:

Restlessness or trouble sleeping
Anxiety, irritability, or agitation
Shaking or sweating
Fast or noticeable heartbeat
Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea
Loss of appetite

If you get withdrawal symptoms, contact your doctor.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you take:

Cimetidine for stomach ulcers.
Antidepressants or antipsychotics. Taking these with this medicine can sometimes cause serious reactions, including confusion/agitation, hallucinations, changes in heart rate or blood pressure, muscle stiffness, or stomach problems.

If you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or breastfeeding, ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine.
This medicine may rarely make you sleepy or dizzy.
Do not drive or operate machinery if it makes you sleepy, dizzy, or otherwise affects you.

Storage

Keep out of the sight and reach of children.

Do not use this medicine after the ‘EXP’ date shown on the pack.

Store below 25ºC. Protect from sunlight.
