The main
purpose of the SHBG is to connect and transfer the sex hormones i.e.:
Testosterone, DHT, and Oestrogen, into the bloodstream. The reason why you need
to update your SHBG levels is that this protein is responsible for regulating a
certain amount of Testosterone that is supplied to your body tissue. Depending
on your age, weight, sex, and health, your SHBG levels can progressively alter.
Specific conditions such as Hypothyroidism or liver disease can also be a
factor in your SHBG levels changing.
If, however, you have developed symptoms, or your GP has asked you to do the test then this may also indicate that your Testosterone levels have decreased and need specific stat updates. The test can help you understand what your body is producing and thus will help comprehend what’s next. You won’t need any preparation for the test as everything supplied within the kit is all you need, to conduct the blood test successfully. Before conducting the test, try to avoid the use of pain reliefs as they may affect your test results. Finally, we advise you to keep your GP updated with your test results.
How to use
Before completing the test, wash and dry your hands. Start by removing the lid off the blood tube, then use the alcohol wipe provided within the kit to clean the tip of your fingertip. Once the area is cleaned, twist and pull the purple tip off the lancet, center the tip on your finger, and push done. This will ensure the fingertip is pricked and blood will start to release from that area. Apply some pressure to ensure a certain amount of blood is released from the finger into the tube. Continue to do it until you meet the line on the tube.
Once that’s done,
push the cap back on the tube to avoid any contamination and apply a plaster to
your finger. Place the blood tube back into the box and fill out any details on
the form provided. Then all you must do is send it off with the pre-paid
envelope and wait for your results.
Side effects & Caution
With a finger prick
blood test, you will majority of the time experience very minimal side effects.
This is because the blood sample you will be providing will leave you with a
mere cut from the injection. Therefore, the alcohol wipe and plaster should
suffice the pain.
If, however, you do experience severe symptoms such as headaches, migraines, nausea, bruising, inflammation, and lightheadedness then typically we would advise you to call your GP and ask them for more medical attention. They would outline what to do next to avoid any more symptoms from occurring.
Caution: If you are
experiencing a decline in Testosterone (for men) and an incline in other
medical problems i.e., low sperm count or erectile dysfunction then it’s wise
to order the kit and find out what your body is producing. This should give you
more clarification on what is happening in your body, specifically your Testosterone.
Only suitable for ages 18 and over.
